Instructions for Downloading the Adobe Acrobat Viewer

The Adobe Acrobat Viewer is necessary for viewing and printing the full text of legislative documents. It is advisable to print these directions for your reference.


Click on the name of your web browser:
Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser     Netscape Navigator     America Online Browser




If you are using the Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser 3.0 or greater or the Netscape Navigator Browser 2.0 or greater:
  1. Click on the "Get Acrobat Reader" icon: to begin downloading the Adobe Acrobat Viewer.
  2. At the Adobe Acrobat Download Homepage (http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html) go to the download steps.
  3. Step 1 asks you to register. This is optional.
  4. Step 2 asks you to choose the reader (Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Reader with Search), choose your platform (for instance Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1 Macintosh) and choose the lanquage version (English, Dutch, Japanese, French, etc.)
  5. Scroll to the Download button and click on it. A downloading and installing screen which names the version of Acrobat Reader you selected will appear.
  6. Scroll to the download link such as "ar32e301.exe."
  7. Click on the .exe file in hypertext to download the installer file.
  8. A screen may appear with a warning about viruses. Click on "save it to disk." Then click on "OK."
  9. A "Save as" screen will appear. Save the .exe file to the drive and directory that contains your Internet Explorer Software or Netscape Software, such as "C:\iexplore\" or "C:\netscape\."
  10. Click on "OK."
  11. The file will download to your computer. This will take a few minutes.
  12. When the download is completed, exit from your browser.
  13. Go into File Manager.
  14. Go to the directory to which you downloaded the .exe file and double click on it.
  15. A screen titled "InstallShield Self-extracting EXE" will appear. Click on "yes."
  16. Installshield will extract the files which will install Acrobat Reader.
  17. A "Welcome" screen appears announcing the setup program. The screen has a warning to close any Windows programs which you may have open. Click on "Next."
  18. A license agreement will appear. Click on "Yes."
  19. A screen appears titled "Choose Destination Location." Follow the instructions and choose their destination directory "C:\Acrobat3\Reader." Click on "Next."
  20. The self-extracting file will install Acrobat Reader.
  21. A screen will appear titled "Complete."
  22. Click on "Finish" to complete the setup.
  23. The Acrobat Reader is now installed. You may delete the .exe file
  24. Exit File Manager and go into your browser. You may now view Acrobat documents on our website.

If you are using the America Online Browser:
  1. Click on the "Get Acrobat Reader" icon: to begin downloading the Adobe Acrobat Viewer.

  23. Exit File Manager and go into the AOL browser.
  24. Go to the Members Menu item in AOL.
  25. Choose set preferences.
  26. Click on the WWW icon.
  27. Click on the Helper App icon in the upper right corner.
  28. Choose New in the Helper App dialog box.
  29. In the Description command line type: Acrobat Viewer
  30. In the Content Type and Sub Type command line type: Application/Acrobat.
  31. In the File Extension command line type: pdf.
  32. In the Application Name command line click on browse button.
  33. Select the name of the drive, directory and file containing the Acrobat Viewer (C:\Acrobat3\Reader\Acrord32.exe).
  34. Close the Preferences windows.
  35. You may now view Acrobat documents on our website.
  36. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is now installed. You may delete the .exe file.
  37. Exit File Manager and go into your browser. You can now view Adobe documents on our web site.
